Truth
is absolutely Self-evident and therefore impossible to believe in.
Belief
necessarily implies uncertainty. Uncertainty is inherent within
belief.
Does one need believe that they
exist? Directly experiencing one's own existence, what is there to
believe?
Only concepts can be believed.
Beliefs are only concepts.
A dog chasing it's tail.
OK but isn't that all just semantics? In my previous post (to which you responded with a link to this one) how about we simply substitute "know" for "believe"?
ReplyDeleteOr if knowing and knowledge themselves are suspect for any reason, eg in presupposing subject and object, then how about we substitute "apprehend" or "get" or even "grok", for "believe"?
I used the word "believe" simply in order to have the conversation with you. I'm not particularly attached to it as a verb with or without non-controversial significance.
"Belief", "concept", "existence", "only" and even "are": these are inventions of humans, labels that humans invented to attach to what they perceive as aspects of reality. Words are invented by humans for use by humans in human contexts. Thought and language are not necessarily reliable or productive tools --- though they can be, if managed carefully and with expertise.
So... having both stated that this conversation is impossible, shall we converse? :)
Cosmic Rapture
Isn't a dog chasing its tail closer to Truth than a dog with no tail at all, not even a vestigial stump.
ReplyDeleteWhy are we having the conversation? Is it to come to some sot of realization? To realize a Truth?
ReplyDeleteWhat I am saying in my blog is that the realization is only discovered in the trascendence of thinking. Words only point to this realization and are not the realization themselves.
If it is peace and contentment you are seeking, shift attention onto that which is shifting the attention. When this is done mind will find the source of the "I" (Self-awareness) and it will subside. Abidance in/as that is Self.
If you really don't want peace and contentment, then I really don't desire to waste my energy conversing with you. So ask yourself what you want.
